Slip 'n' Slide

Scene from De La Guarda’s Fuerza Bruta performance at the Roundhouse theare in London

Although I didn’t realise it at the time, Friday the 30th of June 2006 was an evening of reconnections.

I headed out of my office in Covent Garden for an evening performance by De la Guarda at London’s Roundhouse theatre in Camden. As I crossed the street I noticed a young couple in front of me. They appeared to be heading out for a nice night out. I turned down Drury Lane and headed for the bus stop.

Twenty minutes later I got off the bus and made my way inside the Roundhouse. I needed to set my rucksack down to get the ticket out — when I realised that the couple on the bench I was using was the very same couple I noticed back in Covent Garden. Kind of strange…

So I check out as much of the Roundhouse history as I can stomach before taking my place along the perimeter of the curtained entrance. I notice a striking woman with strawberry blonde hair talking to a gentleman wearing a straw hat. Before long I begin to realise that this woman is someone that I met approximately eight years ago when I first moved to the United Kingdom. She was in fact Lucinda Gallant (a musician) who was boarding her cats at St Andrew’s Farm Kennel at the same time I was bringing my cats through the quarantine process.

Quite a surprise to see her so many years later. It was she who originally encouraged me to pursue the route to gaining Canadian citizenship in order to aqcuire my UK citizenship — so I have her to thank for that.

Thanks Lucinda!

A week in Paris…

June 25th, 2006

I am heading home after a fantastic week in Paris. A variety of activities was planned by a committee of members from the Flickr@Paris group - but it should be noted the main mastermind behind the event was the charming Philippe LeRoyer.

It will take me a while to sift through all the photos and post them online. Watch this space

NB: if you see any typos, it’s because I’m on a French azerty keyboard. If I didn’t know the ASCII code for the apostrophe, I’d have been stuffed!

The Elephant Drinks...

I’m quite chuffed that this photo was chosen as the primary image for the Lift Festival site who helped organise ‘The Sultan’s Elephant’ spectacle.

A picture taken in Paris last weekend. Yes, I played with the red saturation a bit ;)
